CRISPY BAKED FRENCH FRIES

Homemade fries are one of my favorite comfort foods. I was hoping for a very long time to finally find the perfect recipe for baked french fries. But every time I made some they either turned out too soft or just never got that crispy I would have liked them to be.

These healthy baked french fries are low-fat, oven baked, super crispy - ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!

Perfect as a snack, for a movie-night, as a side dish, actually they are perfect for any time.


Better air fry or bake the potato fries?

If you have an air fryer, I definitely recommend air fry the french fries because they will always turn out a little more crispy when air fried. But I also made them in the oven a lot of times. They always turned out super crispy as well.


What's the secret?

The secret is to blanch the potato stripes for two minutes before baking and then rinse with cold water. This will not only safe you a lot of time but will also make your fries perfectly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside!

Ingredients:

  • 500 g potatoes

  • water

  • 1/2 Tbsp Oil

  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into one centimeter thick slices. I like to use a wave knife chopper.

  2. Preheat oven (or air fryer) to 220 Degree Celsius.

  3. Fill a bowl with cold water and put the potato slices into the bowl. Wait for 5 minutes and drain the water.

  4. In a pan heat some water to blanch the potato slices. When hot, blanch them for two minutes, drain hot water and quickly cool with ice-cold water. Drain again.

  5. With a kitchen towel dry the potato slices very well.

  6. In a bowl, mix potato slices and oil. Line a baking tray with baking sheet and place all potato slices on it.

  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes, flipping halfway through. Or air fry for 15 minutes - also flipping halfway through.
