OIL-FREE CRISPY BAKED TOFU CRUMBLE
This crispy and healthy baked tofu crumble is the perfect addition to any food. If you ever were wondering how you could pimp up a curry, a soup, a salad or anything you can imagine, THIS IS THE ANSWER. These tofu crumble bites also are amazing as a snack. Even to top off your avocado toast these crispy thingies are simply awesome!
My mum asked me to make and publish a recipe for these oil-free tofu crumbles because ever since I moved she's really missing these ones!
It is so easy to make, less ingredients, gluten-free, dairy-free and so yummy!
Pressing the tofu
One thing that is very important, is to press the water out of the tofu before breading. If you don't do this the tofu is not going to be crispy!
Wrap the block of tofu in a clean towel or kitchen paper.
Put something heavy such as a frying pan on top, weight it down further with cans and jars, and leave for 30 mins.
The tofu will be about two-thirds its original thickness, and up to 100ml water will have been removed.
What is the breading made out of?
The breading actually is only made out of three ingredients. Almond flour or breadcrumbs, soy sauce and nutritional yeast. I do also like to add spices like smoked paprika, salt and pepper!
I prefer to use almond flour within this recipe but I do also sometimes use breadcrumbs! Both works perfectly good! If you want to make it gluten-free, you need to use almond flour though.
Serves: one small / 250 grams tofu block
Time: 35 minutes preparation time, 30 minutes baking time
250 g tofu block
2 Tbsp soy sauce
2 Tbsp nutritional yeast
2 Tbsp almond flour
salt, pepper to taste
1 tsp smoked paprika
First of all, wrap the tofu in a towel or kitchen paper and press for 30 minutes. In the meantime mix nutritional yeast, almond flour, salt, pepper and smoked paprika.
Preheat oven to 200 degree Celsius. When the tofu is ready, crumble it with your fingers and put in the prepared breading. Also add soy sauce and mix to combine.
Line a baking tray with baking sheet and put the tofu crumble onto it. Bake for 30 minutes, flipping it halfway through!
